Diabetic Eyes Need Extra Care & Attention
Living with diabetes raises your risk of serious eye conditions. One of the best things you can do to safeguard your vision health is to have a comprehensive eye exam with retinal imaging at least once every year.
People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are susceptible to diabetic retinopathy, which can develop slowly without noticeable symptoms. With our precise diagnostic imaging, we can see very early signs of blood vessel damage, far before your vision changes. In this way, we can take steps to protect your vision.
We care deeply about providing you with every opportunity to protect your vision from diabetic eye disease and we believe you shouldn’t have to travel far from home to receive a high level of care. Trust Claresholm Eye Care to take care of your vision health.

Retinal Imaging Is Essential in Diabetic Eye Exams
We were the second clinic in Alberta to acquire the ZEISS Clarus ultra widefield retinal camera to help protect our patients’ health. This imaging technology allows us to be proactive about your health. It provides us up to a 270º view of the inside of your eye—far more than we can see with traditional tools.
This means that when your eyes are healthy, we can collect benchmark imaging to help us better detect changes. And if you do develop any eye conditions, the retinal imaging is extremely helpful in pinpointing it and allowing us to make a plan for next steps.
Together with optical coherence tomography (OCT), which produces cross-sectional images of the retina, we are able to create a comprehensive picture of your vision health.
Symptoms of Diabetic Eye Disease
Unfortunately, many eye diseases related to diabetes are asymptomatic, meaning you likely won’t experience symptoms until you have already begun to experience permanent vision loss. A diabetic eye exam can catch many of these conditions in their early stages, allowing us to slow or even prevent vision loss.
If you experience any of the following vision changes, it’s critical that you book an appointment with us as soon as possible:
- Loss of central vision
- Blurry or distorted vision
- Flashes of light in field of vision
- Inability to see colours
- Black spots or floaters
- Fluctuating vision
